Cao Bang is most famous for the strikingly beautiful Ban Gioc Waterfall, but there’s so much more to this incredible, under-visited part of Vietnam. This province often looks otherworldly and has lush, green mountains bent into shapes that simply look unreal.
While Ha Giang’s scenery is probably Vietnam’s best, Cao Bang has countless hidden gems that are so rewarding to find. The main roads are busy enough, but the real fun begins when you go off-road! There is one particular stretch of road snaking its way through the mountains that was completely surreal. I still think about that part of the journey almost every day.
Cao Bang is unforgettable, and I’m genuinely sad that I’ll never get to see it again for the first time. Venturing around its many valleys, hiking to remote meadows, getting lost, and finding insanely muddy off-road tracks to ride on is fun in its purest form.
