Cuba: A Vibrant Flashback to the 1950s

Great food, vibrant music, captivating scenery: these are just a few things that make Cuba special. One of the best ways I can describe this country is that it’s a journey back in time.

Because of the US government embargo that has been in place since the 1960’s, many parts of Cuba feel like they’ve been lost in time. That fact is most evident in the gorgeous vintage cars that populate the island and make Cuba special.

Owing to their distinctive creativity, Cubans have used whatever they can find to maintain these classics over several decades.

And the result is a big part of what makes Cuba so damn awesome.

Nowhere else can you ride around all day in a 1950’s Chevrolet that’s being used as a taxi like it’s a normal everyday thing, because in Cuba, it is.

It’s hard to believe, but after just a few days you become completely used to watching these classics rolling down the street. There’s simply so many of them that you can’t look at them all and may even not pay as much attention to it after a while, which is a staggering thought because this is the only place in the modern world you can see anything like this!
