Georgia: The Colors of Svaneti

Georgia’s Svaneti region is home to the famous Mestia-Ushguli trek, a multi-day hike through the Caucasus Mountains. This epic trek crosses stunning, diverse landscapes, and it is one of the country’s most breathtaking hiking spots!

Tourists flock to this region to hike in the summer months, but I came here at the onset of winter. My hope was to catch glorious Fall foliage along with snowy peaks and cooler temperatures, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Fairytale Beauty

The colors were out of this world. Red, orange, yellow, and green trees streaked down the mountainside forests beneath snowcapped mountains. At times, It felt like I was experiencing Summer, Fall, and Winter all at once. Seeing lush valleys at the feet of snowy mountaintops with red and yellow forests between them was a storybook experience.

Going through alpine, snow-covered tundra, autumnal valleys, muddy bogs, and golden forests, this trek is one of a kind. Seeing Mestia in any season is spectacular, but its seasonal beauty in Autumn is unmatched. If you’re able to experience this region in late October-Early November, you’ll be seeing it at its absolute best!
