Sri Lanka has this mystifying trait of making you want to stay longer than you planned. That’s not really something I can explain, but its hilly, green center and white sand beaches make it a perfect place to call home, along with delicious food in massive portions and endlessly hospitable people.
It’s effortless to walk out the door every evening and watch some of the most colorful sunsets in the world. And you can easily spend the day on the beach relaxing, surfing, and enjoying good company. The many cafes, restaurants, rice fields, forests, and other hidden spots dotting the coastline also have so much to offer.
I absolutely love this country. There’s plenty of good hiking to be had if you can endure the humidity, and I love riding a scooter along the smooth roads found all across the island! One of my best days in Sri Lanka was spent riding motorcycles for nine hours with a friend through the hilly center down to the southern coast, and that’s something I’ll never forget.
Whether you’re craving adventure or relaxation, Sri Lanka has plenty of both. This underrated country truly has it all!
