The far north of Pakistan is a huge territory that is home to the most remote and awe-inspiring locations in the world. The mountains here in the far reaches of Hunza are strikingly beautiful, dangerous, and raw. It’s difficult to put into words how I feel about the places you see in this gallery.
The places on display here showcase some of the rawest terrain not only in Pakistan, but in the world. There are precious few wild places left on this planet that have managed to avoid being marred by human activity.
And Pakistan’s north is home to so many of them.
Riding my motorcycle through these landscapes and hiking across their plains and over peaks remains an experience I can’t describe. These areas highlight our responsibility to protect them from the human tendency to exploit and damage our planet’s wilderness areas.
Whenever we admire these regions, responsible development and conservation – instead of exploitation – should be our priority.
Pakistan’s far north shows the awesome beauty of the natural world at its purest, untouched best. As of now, these places can only be visited by someone who’s willing to go explore off the beaten path. I’d like to keep it that way. I hope this gallery conveys just how beautiful these wilderness areas are and how important it is to protect them.
