Not as well-known as Vietnam’s more touristy destinations further to the south like Ninh Binh and Ha Long Bay, Ha Giang Province, located in Vietnam’s far north, has a reputation that is growing each year and is home to the famous Ha Giang Loop, a circular road which runs around the province.
The Loop, starting and ending at Ha Giang town, is a road trip through otherworldly, alien landscapes that seem like they belong on another planet. You can spend as little as two days or far more exploring this region by motorcycle and it is, in my opinion, one of the world’s most spectacular motorcycle journeys. Beautiful villages, lush roadside views, delicious, cheap food, and even better people are scattered across these epic landscapes.
Thankfully, these days the main road is now entirely paved – a change from just a few years ago. However, there are still many off-road tracks to explore and that for me is the sweetest part of the deal. The mountainous landscapes are pure adventure and a total joy to explore, whether on foot or by bike.
Venturing around Ha Giang along with neighboring Cao Bang Province to the east is a spellbinding experience. In fact, I love it so much that I’ve gone back a few times! Northern Vietnam is a gem, and its natural beauty is a sight to behold. I hope you enjoy the breathtaking scenery in this gallery as much as I do.
